Overview

Many therapists and counselors work alongside assessment reports without ever being taught how evaluations are conducted, what questions they are designed to answer, or how to translate findings into meaningful clinical support.

This introductory course provides a clear overview of psychological assessment as a distinct discipline. You will learn how assessment differs from counseling, intake, and symptom tracking, and what kinds of clarity comprehensive evaluation can provide.

Participants are introduced to why assessment exists, when it is indicated, and how evaluations examine cognition, attention, learning, processing, and functioning across domains rather than focusing only on symptoms or diagnoses. The course also offers practical guidance for reading reports, identifying what is clinically relevant, and using findings to support clients while staying within scope of practice.

Benefits of this training

After completing the course, you will be better prepared to:

  • Understand what psychological assessment is and why it exists

  • Recognize when assessment is indicated and what questions it can answer

  • Read psychological reports with greater clarity and confidence

  • Identify the most clinically relevant findings for treatment planning

  • Translate assessment language into practical clinical support

  • Collaborate more effectively with evaluators and other providers

  • Use assessment findings to inform accommodations, supports, and life planning within your scope
