Overview

This self-paced course gives prescribers a rigorous, evidence-based approach to ADHD screening across the lifespan and offers an optional 12 CEs. Many nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians diagnose ADHD from a biopsychosocial interview alone because they have few other options. This course offers a structured approach that does not require referring out or conducting a full evaluation yourself. You will learn to conduct a structured interview, select and interpret rating scales, work through the differential, and summarize your findings clearly. You will also learn when a screening answers the question and when to refer for further testing.

The course gives particular attention to what is easy to miss, including look-alike conditions, co-occurring conditions, sleep, and the ways ADHD presents from childhood through adulthood. Throughout, the focus is on functional impact and developmental context, with neurodiversity-affirming language that avoids pathologizing conclusions.

The course is also open to therapists who want to offer ADHD screening within their scope of practice. For therapists, it serves as a screening course and includes guidance on pricing, billing, and marketing a screening service.

The course is fully online, with three months of access. You will finish with practical tools you can use right away, including intake forms, a report template, and decision trees for pediatric and adult clients.

Who This Training Is For

This course is designed for master's- and doctoral-level clinicians who screen for, diagnose, or treat clients with ADHD-related concerns. It is an especially strong fit for prescribers, including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians, who want more behind an ADHD diagnosis than a biopsychosocial interview. Graduates also include psychologists, counselors, therapists, social workers, and speech and occupational therapists.

This course is a strong fit if any of these describe you.

  • You prescribe for ADHD and want more than a symptom checklist behind your diagnosis.

  • You want to feel confident in your findings before you start a medication.

  • Your clients wait months when you refer out for testing, and you want to give them answers sooner.

  • You screen for ADHD and want a clear, repeatable, reliable process.

  • You see adults who have wondered about ADHD for years.

  • You are considering the Neurodevelopmental Assessment Program: ADHD, Autism, & Beyond and want a focused place to start.
